  1  4 RELATING TO MEETING DATES BY WHICH THE STATE BOARD OF REGENTS
  1  5    MUST MAKE FINAL DECISIONS ON TUITION INCREASES FOR INSTI-
  1  6    TUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION UNDER ITS CONTROL.

  1  8 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1 10    Section 1.  Section 262.9, subsection 18, Code Supplement
  1 11 2003, is amended to read as follows:
  1 12    18.  Not less than thirty days prior to action by the board
  1 13 on any proposal to increase tuition, fees, or charges at one
  1 14 or more of the institutions of higher education under its
  1 15 control, send written notification of the amount of the
  1 16 proposed increase including a copy of the proposed tuition
  1 17 increase docket memorandum prepared for its consideration to
  1 18 the presiding officers of the student government organization
  1 19 of the affected institutions.  The final decision on an
  1 20 increase in tuition or mandatory fees charged to all students
  1 21 at an institution for a fiscal year shall be made no later
  1 22 than the at a regular meeting held in November of the
  1 23 preceding fiscal year and shall be reflected in a final docket
  1 24 memorandum that states the estimated total cost of attending
  1 25 each of the institutions of higher education under the board's
  1 26 control.  The regular meeting held in November shall be held
  1 27 in Ames, Cedar Falls, or Iowa City and shall not be held
  1 28 during the a period in which classes have been suspended for
  1 29 Thanksgiving vacation university holiday or break.
