1 1 Section 1. Section 321.134, Code 2003, is amended by
1 2 adding the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 5. The department shall waive the
1 4 penalties imposed by this section for an owner who, as a
1 5 member of the Iowa national guard, is ordered into active
1 6 state service, federal service, or state active duty. The
1 7 waiver shall apply during the period of activation and for
1 8 thirty days from the date the period of active military
1 9 service ends, according to rules adopted by the department.
1 10 EXPLANATION
1 11 This bill requires the state department of transportation
1 12 to waive penalties for overdue motor vehicle registration fees
1 13 if the motor vehicle owner is an Iowa national guard member
1 14 and is called to active state service, federal service, or
1 15 state active duty. The penalty waiver applies for 30 days
1 16 after the end of the period of military activation.
