SPECIAL PRESENTATION
In celebration of "March Women’s History Month", the Iowa
Commission on the Status of Women, the Iowa Department of
Education and the State Historical Society of Iowa sponsored a "Write
Women Back Into History" essay contest. Jacobs of Polk and
Mascher of Johnson presented the following winners of the contest:
Sixth and Seventh Grade Category
First Place - Carla Schaffer, Parkview Middle School, Ankeny.
Second Place - Melissa Dunlap, Colo-Nesco Middle School, Zearing.
Third Place - Caitlyn Levetzow, Wood Intermediate School,
Davenport.
Eight and Ninth Grade Category
First Place - Katie Bartlett, Central Academy, Des Moines.
Second Place - Molly Gallentine, BCLUW High School, Conrad.
Third Place - Erin Wonder, Indianola Middle School, Indianola.
Best Essays on Women in Science and Engineering
Sixth and Seventh Grade Category
First Place - Valerie Brophy, Prairie Middle School, Cedar Rapids.
Second Place - Emily A. Nagle, Jefferson Junior High School,
Dubuque.
Eighth and Ninth Grade Category
First Place - Kathleen M. Vonderhaar, Marquette Junior/Senior
High School, West Point.
Second Place - Daniela Vigliotti, Lourdes Catholic School,
Bettendorf.
Edith Rose Murphy Sackett Award for the
Best Essay on a Woman Volunteer
