1 1 Section 1. Section 92.8, subsection 19, Code 2001, is
1 2 amended to read as follows:
1 3 19. Occupations involving exposure to lead fumes or its
1 4 compounds, or to dangerous or poisonous dyes or chemicals with
1 5 a federal occupational safety and health administration
1 6 material safety data sheet rating of greater than two.
1 7 EXPLANATION
1 8 This bill allows persons under 18 years of age to work at
1 9 an occupation involving the use of chemicals with a material
1 10 safety data sheet (MSDS) rating of two or less so long as
1 11 proper protective equipment is worn. Chemical manufacturers
1 12 are required by the federal occupational safety and health
1 13 administration (OSHA) to assess the hazards of chemicals they
1 14 manufacture or import and to provide information about the
1 15 chemicals on a material safety data sheet that rates the
1 16 hazards associated with use of the chemicals and recommends
1 17 whether there is a necessity for the use of personal
1 18 protective equipment during exposure to the chemicals.
