Senate Study Bill 1156

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 722.5, Code 2001, is amended to read as
  1  2 follows:
  1  3    722.5  IMPROPER VOTING.
  1  4    Any person who does any of the following commits a serious
  1  5 misdemeanor class "D" felony:
  1  6    1.  Votes more than once in any election which may be held
  1  7 by virtue of any law of this state.
  1  8    2.  Votes at any election authorized by law, knowing
  1  9 oneself not to be qualified.
  1 10    3.  Submits false identification to an election official in
  1 11 order to vote.  
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill increases the penalty for improper voting from a
  1 14 serious misdemeanor to a class "D" felony.  Improper voting
  1 15 includes voting more than once and voting when one knows one
  1 16 is not qualified to vote.  The bill adds to the prohibition of
  1 17 improper voting the submission of false identification to an
  1 18 election official in order to vote.
