  1  1    Section 1.  Section 915.94, Code 2001, is amended to read
  1  2 as follows:
  1  3    915.94  VICTIM COMPENSATION FUND.
  1  4    A victim compensation fund is established as a separate
  1  5 fund in the state treasury.  Moneys deposited in the fund
  1  6 shall be administered by the department and dedicated to and
  1  7 used for the purposes of section 915.41 and this subchapter.
  1  8 In addition, the department may use moneys from the fund for
  1  9 the purposes of section 236.15 for the purpose of the
  1 10 department's prosecutor-based victim service coordination,
  1 11 including, but not limited to, the duties defined in sections
  1 12 910.3 and 910.6 and chapter 915, and for the award of funds to
  1 13 programs that provide services and support to victims of
  1 14 domestic abuse or sexual assault as provided in chapter 236.
  1 15 The department may also use up to one hundred thousand dollars
  1 16 from the fund to provide training for victim service
  1 17 providers.  Notwithstanding section 8.33, any balance in the
  1 18 fund on June 30 of any fiscal year shall not revert to the
  1 19 general fund of the state.  
  1 20                           EXPLANATION
  1 21    This bill amends Code section 915.94 relating to the victim
  1 22 compensation fund.  The bill expands the authority of the
  1 23 department of justice to allow use of moneys from the fund for
  1 24 the department's prosecutor-based victim service coordination,
  1 25 including, but not limited to, the department's restitution
  1 26 and victim rights duties.  The bill further allows the
  1 27 department of justice to use up to $100,000 from the fund for
  1 28 victim service provider training.
