1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. __
1 2 BY BEHN
1 3 A Resolution honoring the Des Moines Area Community College
1 4 Men's Basketball Team.
1 5 WHEREAS, the fans of the Des Moines Area Community
1 6 College (DMACC) Boone Bears and the citizens of Iowa
1 7 are greatly pleased that the DMACC Men's Basketball
1 8 Team had a spectacular regular season leading to their
1 9 capture of the National Junior College Athletic
1 10 Association (NJCAA) Conference Championship and the
1 11 NJCAA Region XI Championship; and
1 12 WHEREAS, the DMACC Men's Basketball Team made its
1 13 fans and all Iowans proud by also advancing to the
1 14 NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Danville,
1 15 Illinois, during the week of March 20-23, 2002, where
1 16 the Boone Bears advanced through two rounds,
1 17 eventually placing fourth in the nation; and
1 18 WHEREAS, individual athletes on the team have been
1 19 honored by being named to the Iowa Community College
1 20 Athletic Conference All-Conference First Team, All-
1 21 Conference Second Team, and have received Honorable
1 22 Mention for the All-Conference Team; and
1 23 WHEREAS, Head Coach Orv Salmon, in only his second
1 24 year at DMACC, led his team to a 31-6 record, making
1 25 his career record at DMACC 60-10; and
1 26 WHEREAS, the DMACC Men's Basketball Team has proven
1 27 to be an outstanding blend of talented men who
1 28 individually, and as a team, are an asset to their
1 29 school, their community, and to all of Iowa; NOW
1 30 THEREFORE,
2 1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
2 2 congratulates Coach Orv Salmon and the Des Moines Area
2 3 Community College Men's Basketball Team on their
2 4 successful season and thanks them for the honor and
2 5 excitement they brought to the State of Iowa.
2 6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage, the
2 7 Secretary of the Senate shall cause an official copy
2 8 of this Resolution to be prepared for presentation to
2 9 Coach Orv Salmon and the Des Moines Area Community
2 10 College Men's Basketball Team.
