PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. ___ 1 2 BY COMMITTEE ON RULES AND ADMINISTRATION 1 3 A Resolution congratulating George A. Wilson, 1 4 Jr. on his distinguished lobbying career before 1 5 the Iowa General Assembly. 1 6 WHEREAS, George A. Wilson, Jr. has announced his 1 7 intention to retire following conclusion of the Second 1 8 Regular Session of the Seventy-ninth General Assembly; 1 9 and 1 10 WHEREAS, George A. Wilson, Jr., being the son of a 1 11 State Senator, Governor, and United States Senator, 1 12 grew up with governmental activity as a daily part of 1 13 his life; and 1 14 WHEREAS, George A. Wilson, Jr. served in the United 1 15 States Army as a tank platoon commander in the 1 16 European Theatre during World War II and, following 1 17 graduation from Drake University Law School in 1951, 1 18 was recalled to active duty for service during the 1 19 Korean Conflict; and 1 20 WHEREAS, in 1953, George A. Wilson, Jr. was 1 21 employed and served as a bill drafter during the 1 22 Fifty-fifth Regular Session of the Iowa General 1 23 Assembly; and 1 24 WHEREAS, George A. Wilson, Jr. commenced his 1 25 professional lobbying career in 1954 when he was 1 26 retained to represent a trade association during the 1 27 Fifty-sixth General Assembly of Iowa; and 1 28 WHEREAS, George A. Wilson, Jr. has represented 1 29 clients before the Iowa General Assembly continuously 1 30 since 1955 and is currently the "Dean of the Third 2 1 House" having served as a professional lobbyist longer 2 2 than any current peer; and 2 3 WHEREAS, during his long career, George A. Wilson, 2 4 Jr. has distinguished himself by demonstrating 2 5 throughout his career outstanding knowledge, judgment, 2 6 collegiality, and high professional standards of 2 7 conduct, ethics, and propriety; and 2 8 WHEREAS, George A. Wilson, Jr. has always been 2 9 available to assist and make welcome new lobbyists and 2 10 share his knowledge of the legislative process and 2 11 parliamentary procedures; and 2 12 WHEREAS, in 1987, George A. Wilson, Jr. was 2 13 recognized for his distinguished career as a 2 14 professional lobbyist by being selected as an honorary 2 15 member of the Pioneer Lawmakers Association by the 2 16 Iowa General Assembly, only one of two lobbyists to 2 17 have been so honored as of that date; NOW THEREFORE, 2 18 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the General 2 19 Assembly of Iowa congratulates George A. Wilson, Jr. 2 20 on his long and distinguished legal career as a 2 21 professional lobbyist and wishes him well with his 2 22 future plans; and 2 23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon passage, the 2 24 Secretary of the Senate shall prepare a copy of this 2 25 Resolution for presentation to George A.
