1 9 A Resolution honoring the University of Iowa
1 10 Women's Basketball Team and Coach Lisa Bluder.
1 11 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa are justifiably proud
1 12 that the University of Iowa Hawkeyes Women's
1 13 Basketball Team finished its regular season with an
1 14 overall record of 17 wins and 10 losses; and
1 15 WHEREAS, the Iowa Women's Basketball Team was led
1 16 by senior guard Lindsey Meder who was the Big Ten's
1 17 top 3-point scorer and one of just four players to be
1 18 unanimously selected to the All-Big Ten first team by
1 19 the coaches; and
1 20 WHEREAS, sophomore Jennie Lillis was named to the
1 21 second team by the media and was an All-Big Ten
1 22 honorable mention by the coaches; and
1 23 WHEREAS, for the second straight year Lindsey Meder
1 24 has been selected to the Verizon Academic All-District
1 25 first team with a GPA of 3.95 in psychology and
1 26 premedicine; and
1 27 WHEREAS, the Iowa Women's Basketball Team led the
1 28 Big Ten with 18.4 assists per game, ranked second in
1 29 the Big Ten in scoring offense with 77.5 points, and
1 30 fourth in field goal percentage of 44.9; and
2 1 WHEREAS, sophomore Jennie Lillis and senior Jerica
2 2 Watson were named Big Ten Players of the week; and
2 3 WHEREAS, the Iowa Women's Basketball Team received
2 4 the number nine seed in the Mideast Region of the
2 5 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
2 6 tournament and won their first-round NCAA Tournament
2 7 game against Virginia on March 16; and
2 8 WHEREAS, the Iowa Women's Basketball Team's NCAA
2 9 appearance marked the 14th and second consecutive NCAA
2 10 Tournament appearance for the team, which is the most
2 11 by any women's basketball team in the Big Ten; NOW
2 12 THEREFORE,
2 13 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
2 14 congratulates the University of Iowa Women's
2 15 Basketball Team, Coach Lisa Bluder, and the coaching
2 16 staff, on their successful season and thanks them for
2 17 representing the University of Iowa and the State of
2 18 Iowa with their fine performance.
2 19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the
2 20 Secretary of the Senate shall prepare a copy of this
2 21 Resolution for presentation to Coach Lisa Bluder and
2 22 the University of Iowa Women's Basketball Team.
