1 3 A Senate Resolution honoring Iowa State Fair Secretary
1 4 Marion Lucas upon his retirement.
1 5 WHEREAS, Marion Lucas has announced his imminent
1 6 retirement as Secretary of the Iowa State Fair; and
1 7 WHEREAS, Secretary Lucas has served as Secretary-
1 8 Manager of the Iowa State Fair since February of 1986;
1 9 and
1 10 WHEREAS, Secretary Lucas was immediately successful
1 11 in his efforts to return large equipment exhibits to
1 12 the Iowa State Fair; and
1 13 WHEREAS, the encouragement and support of Secretary
1 14 Lucas has resulted in one of the nation's most admired
1 15 annual youth livestock exhibitors' Sale of Champions;
1 16 and
1 17 WHEREAS, the economic impact of the Iowa State Fair
1 18 and its interim events has exceeded $70 million
1 19 annually under Secretary Lucas' term of service; and
1 20 WHEREAS, the annual attendance of the Iowa State
1 21 Fair has grown 35 percent since he began his duties;
1 22 and
1 23 WHEREAS, Secretary Lucas has provided cooperation,
1 24 support, and counseling to county fairs throughout
1 25 Iowa; and
1 26 WHEREAS, Secretary Lucas has overseen the
1 27 renovation and preservation of the historic Iowa State
1 28 Fairgrounds; and
1 29 WHEREAS, Secretary Lucas was elected Chairman of
1 30 the International Association of Fairs and Expositions
2 1 for 2001; and
2 2 WHEREAS, Secretary Lucas has been honored
2 3 internationally for his service to the fair industry;
2 4 NOW THEREFORE,
2 5 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate honor
2 6 Iowa State Fair Secretary Marion Lucas for his
2 7 exemplary achievements in propelling the Iowa State
2 8 Fair to even greater national prominence, preserving
2 9 the Fair for future generations, and revitalizing the
2 10 historical fairgrounds as a source of pride for all
2 11 Iowans; and
2 12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate pay tribute
2 13 to Secretary Lucas for his devoted service to the Iowa
2 14 State Fair, county fairs, the fair industry, and the
2 15 State of Iowa; and
2 16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate extend its
2 17 appreciation to Secretary Lucas and his wife, Fran,
2 18 for their dedication, and wish them the very best in
2 19 their retirement years; and
2 20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
2 21 this Resolution be prepared and presented to Secretary
2 22 Lucas.
