1 3 A Resolution honoring Coach Lowell Lyngaas and his
1 4 Race America runners from Valley School District
1 5 in Northeast Iowa.
1 6 WHEREAS, Cross-country Coach Lowell Lyngaas in 1999
1 7 founded the Race America Organization for runners from
1 8 the seventh through the twelfth grade to raise
1 9 awareness of a healthy lifestyle, to promote Northeast
1 10 Iowa, and to raise money for a community wellness
1 11 center in the Valley School District located in and
1 12 around the towns of Elgin, Clermont, and Wadena; and
1 13 WHEREAS, the fourth annual Race America run will be
1 14 held this summer, starting in Salona Beach,
1 15 California, and ending in Wadena, Iowa; and
1 16 WHEREAS, Coach Lyngaas's dedication to the race and
1 17 his youthful runners has been an inspiration to all
1 18 those involved with the annual race; and
1 19 WHEREAS, the result of his steadfast leadership has
1 20 been to promote Iowa and Iowa values throughout many
1 21 states of this country; and
1 22 WHEREAS, his impact on the youth of his community
1 23 has been one of a father figure with a very large
1 24 family; and
1 25 WHEREAS, he was honored to carry the Olympic torch
1 26 on January 5, 2002, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, because of
1 27 his outstanding and unique contributions to the youth
1 28 of his community; NOW THEREFORE,
1 29 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate honor
1 30 Coach Lowell Lyngaas for his extraordinary achievement
2 1 in creating and sustaining Race America, for the
2 2 challenge he has extended to young Iowans to better
2 3 themselves both physically and mentally, to broaden
2 4 their horizons both spiritually and geographically,
2 5 and to develop into tomorrow's leaders; and
2 6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the
2 7 Secretary of the Senate shall prepare a copy of this
2 8 Resolution for presentation to Coach Lowell Lyngaas
2 9 and his Race America runners.
