  1  1                SENATE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2          BY  DVORSKY, HORN, HAMMOND, BOLKCOM, 
  1  3              SHEARER, HARPER, and HOLVECK
  1  4 A Resolution honoring Iowa's collegiate athletes,
  1  5    coaches, and coaching staff.
  1  6    WHEREAS, the Iowa State Cyclones men's basketball
  1  7 team compiled a record of 25 wins and five losses this
  1  8 season to become the number 2 seed in the west
  1  9 regional NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament under the
  1 10 tutelage of the coaching staff and Coach Larry
  1 11 Eustachy; and
  1 12    WHEREAS, the Iowa State Cyclones women's basketball
  1 13 team compiled a record of 25 wins and five losses to
  1 14 earn the number 2 seed in the midwest region of the
  1 15 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, with the guidance
  1 16 of the coaching staff and Coach Bill Fennelly; and
  1 17    WHEREAS, the University of Iowa Hawkeyes men's
  1 18 basketball team had a season record of 22 wins and 11
  1 19 losses, earned a number 7 seed, and won the regular
  1 20 season Big 12 title, moving into the east region of
  1 21 the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, with the
  1 22 leadership of Coach Steve Alford and the coaching
  1 23 staff; and
  1 24    WHEREAS, the University of Iowa Hawkeyes women's
  1 25 basketball team compiled a season record of 20 wins
  1 26 and nine losses, won the Big Ten Conference, earning a
  1 27 number 4 seed in the midwest region NCAA Women's
  1 28 Basketball Tournament, under the direction of the
  1 29 coaching staff and Coach Lisa Bluder; and
  1 30    WHEREAS, the Drake Bulldogs women's basketball team
  2  1 achieved a season record of 23 wins and six losses, to
  2  2 earn a number 12 seed in the east region of the NCAA
  2  3 Women's Basketball Tournament under the supervision of
  2  4 the coaching staff and Coach Lisa Stone; and
  2  5    WHEREAS, the University of Northern Iowa Panthers
  2  6 women's basketball team compiled a season record of 18
  2  7 wins and 10 losses, and have been invited to play in
  2  8 the Women's National Invitational Tournament, with the
  2  9 motivation of the coaching staff and Coach Tony
  2 10 DiCecco; and
  2 11    WHEREAS, each of these teams has worked hard to
  2 12 achieve unity and direction, has learned from their
  2 13 losses, and allowed those losses to strengthen their
  2 14 resolve to win; and
  2 15    WHEREAS, the talents of these student athletes are
  2 16 individually admirable and collectively amazing; and
  2 17    WHEREAS, the direction, guidance, tutelage,
  2 18 supervision, leadership, and motivation provided by
  2 19 the head coach and coaching staff at each of these
  2 20 institutions of higher learning demonstrate their
  2 21 dedication to the art and science of coaching; NOW
  2 22 THEREFORE,
  2 23    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Iowa State
  2 24 Cyclones men's basketball team, the Iowa State
  2 25 Cyclones women's basketball team, the University of
  2 26 Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team, the University of
  2 27 Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball team, the Drake
  2 28 Bulldogs women's basketball team, and the University
  2 29 of Northern Iowa Panthers women's basketball team and
  2 30 their coaches and coaching staffs all be commended for
  3  1 a successful season, that they are wished the best of
  3  2 luck in the tournaments, and that they be thanked for
  3  3 the honor and excitement they have brought to the
  3  4 State of Iowa.
