1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY MADDOX
1 3 A Senate Resolution honoring Theresa J. Uchytil.
1 4 WHEREAS, Theresa Uchytil was crowned Miss Iowa
1 5 2000, on June 10, 2000; and
1 6 WHEREAS, Theresa Uchytil has been twirling baton
1 7 for nearly 20 years, achieving such high honors as
1 8 becoming the World Open Strut and Solo Baton-Twirling
1 9 Champion and the Head Majorette Instructor for the
1 10 Marching Auxiliaries of America, and playing
1 11 basketball, softball, and other sports, in spite of
1 12 the challenge of having been born without her left
1 13 hand; and
1 14 WHEREAS, Theresa Uchytil refuses to be defined by
1 15 her handicap and seeks to encourage people, regardless
1 16 of their challenge, to overcome the obstacles in their
1 17 lives; and
1 18 WHEREAS, Theresa Uchytil adopted as her Miss Iowa
1 19 pageant platform "Facing the Challenge", which
1 20 involved plans to educate the public about Americans
1 21 with disabilities and how to obtain care; and was
1 22 selected first runner-up for the "Quality of Life
1 23 Award" in the Miss America pageant due to this
1 24 platform; and
1 25 WHEREAS, Theresa Uchytil is a national spokesperson
1 26 for the Shriners Hospitals for Children, and was
1 27 appointed a national advocate for the Americans With
1 28 Disabilities Act; and
1 29 WHEREAS, Theresa Uchytil's achievements surpass
1 30 mere outward beauty, and exemplify personality traits
2 1 and perseverance that all Iowans should embrace; NOW
2 2 THEREFORE,
2 3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
2 4 congratulates Theresa Uchytil on her successful reign
2 5 as Miss Iowa 2000, recognizes her talents and personal
2 6 achievements, and wishes her great success in her
2 7 future endeavors.
