PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 483A.24, subsection 2, paragraphs b and 1 2 c, Code Supplement 2001, are amended to read as follows: 1 3 b. Upon written application on forms furnished by the 1 4 department, the department shall issue annually without fee 1 5 one deer or one wild turkey license, or both, to the owner of 1 6 a farm unit or to a member of the owner's family, but not to 1 7 both, and to the tenant or to a member of the tenant's family, 1 8 but not to both. If a person is eligible for and receives a 1 9 free deer hunting license pursuant to this subsection, the 1 10 department, upon application, shall issue a second free deer 1 11 hunting license to the person to take an antlerless deer only. 1 12 The deer hunting license or wild turkey hunting license issued 1 13 shall be valid only on the farm unit for which an applicant 1 14 qualifies pursuant to this subsection and shall be equivalent 1 15 to the least restrictive license issued under section 481A.38. 1 16 The owner or the tenant need not reside on the farm unit to 1 17 qualify for a free license to hunt on that farm unit. A free 1 18 deer hunting license issued pursuant to this subsection shall 1 19 be valid during all shotgun deer seasons. 1 20 c. In addition to the free deer huntinglicenselicenses 1 21 received pursuant to paragraph "b", an owner of a farm unit or 1 22 a member of the owner's family and the tenant or a member of 1 23 the tenant's family may purchase a deer hunting license for 1 24 any option offered to paying deer hunting licensees. An owner 1 25 of a farm unit or a member of the owner's family and the 1 26 tenant or a member of the tenant's family may also purchase 1 27 two additional antlerless deer hunting licenses which are 1 28 valid only on the farm unit for a fee of ten dollars each. 1 29 EXPLANATION 1 30 This bill provides that a landowner or tenant or a member 1 31 of their respective families who is eligible for and receives 1 32 a free deer hunting license may apply for and receive a second 1 33 free deer hunting license to take an antlerless deer only. In 1 34 addition, current law authorizes a landowner or tenant or a 1 35 member of their respective families to purchase two antlerless 2 1 deer licenses for a fee of $10 each. 2 2 LSB 6089SS 79 2 3 tj/sh/8
