  1  1    Section 1.  Section 299.1A, Code 2001, is amended to read
  1  2 as follows:
  1  3    299.1A  COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE AGE.
  1  4    A child who has reached the age of six and is under sixteen
  1  5 years of age by on September 15 is of compulsory attendance
  1  6 age.  However, if the child has reached the age of sixteen on
  1  7 or after September 15, the child is no longer of compulsory
  1  8 attendance age.  
  1  9                           EXPLANATION
  1 10    This bill provides that a child who has reached the age of
  1 11 16 after September 15 is no longer of compulsory attendance
  1 12 age.  Therefore, the child's parent, guardian, or legal or
  1 13 actual custodian is not required to cause the child to attend
  1 14 some public school, an accredited nonpublic school, or
  1 15 competent private instruction.
