1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 321.116A FUEL-EFFICIENT
1 2 VEHICLES.
1 3 For a motor vehicle that has a fuel economy rating of at
1 4 least thirty-three miles per gallon on the highway, as
1 5 determined by the United States environmental protection
1 6 agency, the annual registration fee is sixty-five dollars.
1 7 However, if a motor vehicle with such a fuel economy rating is
1 8 more than five model years old, the annual registration fee
1 9 shall be reduced by five dollars for each year the motor
1 10 vehicle exceeds the five-year mark until the annual fee
1 11 reaches ten dollars.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill creates new Code section 321.116A, providing for
1 14 a flat annual motor vehicle registration fee for motor
1 15 vehicles with a fuel economy rating of at least 33 miles per
1 16 gallon on the highway, as determined by the federal
1 17 environmental protection agency. The bill provides that the
1 18 fee shall be $65 for such vehicles that are five model years
1 19 old or newer, and that the fee shall be reduced by $5 for each
1 20 year the motor vehicle exceeds the five-year mark until the
1 21 fee reaches $10.
