1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 19A.9A STATE EMPLOYMENT
1 2 OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM.
1 3 1. The department shall establish and administer a
1 4 disabled employment opportunities program within state
1 5 government. The department shall provide, by rule, for grants
1 6 to state agencies to make job accommodations for employees
1 7 with disabilities as follows:
1 8 a. To meet the initial needs of job accommodations for new
1 9 disabled employees in a state agency.
1 10 b. To meet the needs of job accommodations for existing
1 11 employees who become disabled.
1 12 c. To provide continuing accommodations to employees with
1 13 disabilities to allow the employees to continue to be
1 14 contributing and vital members of the state workforce.
1 15 2. The maximum grant award shall be five thousand dollars
1 16 per employee with disabilities.
1 17 3. A disabled employment opportunities fund is created in
1 18 the state treasury to be administered by the department. The
1 19 proceeds of the fund shall be used to make grants to state
1 20 agencies to make accommodations to state employees with
1 21 disabilities as provided in this section.
1 22 Sec. 2. APPROPRIATION. There is appropriated from the
1 23 general fund of the state to the disabled employment
1 24 opportunities fund for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2001,
1 25 and ending June 30, 2002, the following amount, or so much
1 26 thereof as is necessary, to be used for the purpose
1 27 designated:
1 28 For grants to state agencies to implement a disabled
1 29 employment opportunities program as provided in section 1 of
1 30 this Act:
1 31 .................................................. $ 500,000
1 32 EXPLANATION
1 33 This bill creates and appropriates $500,000 to a disabled
1 34 employment opportunities fund for the fiscal year beginning
1 35 July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, for the purpose of
2 1 establishing and implementing a disabled employment
2 2 opportunities program within state government. The program is
2 3 administered by the department of personnel and authorizes a
2 4 maximum grant of $5,000 per employee with disabilities to
2 5 accommodate new employees with disabilities in a job setting,
2 6 to accommodate existing employees who become disabled to
2 7 remain employed, and to provide continuing accommodations to
2 8 employees with disabilities so that they may continue to be
2 9 contributing and vital members of the state workforce.
