  1  1    Section 1.  Section 144.29A, subsection 1, paragraphs c and
  1  2 j, Code 2001, are amended to read as follows:
  1  3    c.  The maternal health services region of the Iowa
  1  4 department of public health, as designated as of July 1, 1997,
  1  5 county and state in which the patient resides.
  1  6    j.  The number of weeks since the patient's last menstrual
  1  7 period and a clinical estimate of gestation.
  1  8    Sec. 2.  Section 144.29A, subsection 1, Code 2001, is
  1  9 amended by adding the following new paragraphs:
  1 10    NEW PARAGRAPH.  k.  A clinical estimate of the week of
  1 11 gestation in which the termination occurred.
  1 12    NEW PARAGRAPH.  l.  The procedure used for an induced
  1 13 abortion, including but not limited to suction curettage,
  1 14 RU486, dilation and evacuation, or hysterotomy.  
  1 15                           EXPLANATION
  1 16    This bill amends the section of the Code relating to
  1 17 termination of pregnancy reporting.  The bill requires a
  1 18 health care provider who initially identifies and diagnoses a
  1 19 spontaneous termination of pregnancy or who induces a
  1 20 termination of pregnancy to report the specific procedure used
  1 21 if the termination of pregnancy is induced, a clinical
  1 22 estimate of the week of gestation in which the termination
  1 23 occurred, and the county and state in which the patient
  1 24 resides.  Under existing law, the procedure used to induce a
  1 25 termination of pregnancy is not required to be reported, only
  1 26 the month and year of the termination are to be reported, and
  1 27 the maternal health services region not the county and state
  1 28 in which the patient resides is to be reported.
