  1  1    Section 1.  Section 22.7, Code 2001, is amended by adding
  1  2 the following new subsection:
  1  3    NEW SUBSECTION.  43.  Real estate records which identify
  1  4 the location of a facility providing emergency shelter
  1  5 services pursuant to chapter 236.
  1  6    Sec. 2.  Section 236.10, subsection 3, Code 2001, is
  1  7 amended to read as follows:
  1  8    3.  The Until a domestic abuse case is complete and the
  1  9 time for appeal has expired, the entire file or a portion of
  1 10 the file in a domestic abuse the case shall be closed to all
  1 11 but the court and its officers.  After that time the entire
  1 12 file or a portion of the file shall be sealed by the clerk of
  1 13 court as ordered by the court to protect the privacy interest
  1 14 or safety of any person.  
  1 15                           EXPLANATION
  1 16    This bill amends Code sections 22.7 and 236.10 relating to
  1 17 the confidentiality of certain domestic abuse records.
  1 18    The bill creates a new subsection in Code section 22.7
  1 19 providing that real estate records which identify the location
  1 20 of emergency shelters for victims of domestic abuse shall be
  1 21 confidential.
  1 22    The bill amends Code section 236.10 to provide that the
  1 23 entire file in a domestic abuse case shall be closed to all
  1 24 but the court and its officers until complete and after the
  1 25 time for appeal has expired.  Current law provides that the
  1 26 entire file or a portion of the file in a domestic abuse case
  1 27 shall be sealed by the clerk of court as ordered by the court
  1 28 to protect the privacy or safety interest of any person.
