  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  135.26  BRACHIAL PLEXUS INJURY
  1  2 CONSULTATION PROGRAM.
  1  3    The university of Iowa hospitals and clinics shall develop
  1  4 and maintain a comprehensive database of information regarding
  1  5 brachial plexus injury.  In every case where a diagnosis of
  1  6 brachial plexus injury is made, the parents or legal guardians
  1  7 of an infant so diagnosed shall be given the opportunity to
  1  8 consult with a brachial plexus injury specialist regarding
  1  9 treatment options and reported success rates.  The objective
  1 10 of the consultation shall be to place a parent or legal
  1 11 guardian in the position of subsequently making an educated
  1 12 and informed decision regarding the pursuit of brachial plexus
  1 13 injury treatment.  
  1 14                           EXPLANATION
  1 15    This bill requires the university of Iowa hospitals and
  1 16 clinics to develop and maintain a comprehensive database of
  1 17 information regarding brachial plexus injury.  The bill
  1 18 provides that in every case where an infant is diagnosed with
  1 19 brachial plexus injury, the parents or legal guardians shall
  1 20 be given the opportunity to consult with a brachial plexus
  1 21 injury specialist regarding treatment options and reported
  1 22 success rates, with the objective of subsequently making an
  1 23 educated and informed decision regarding the pursuit of
  1 24 brachial plexus injury treatment.
