  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  280.28  CURRICULUM DIRECTOR
  1  2 REQUIREMENT.
  1  3    1.  Beginning July 1, 2002, in addition to licenses
  1  4 required under rules adopted in accordance with chapter 272,
  1  5 an individual employed by a school district or accredited
  1  6 nonpublic school to organize curriculum shall at a minimum
  1  7 have secured a master's degree from an accredited school,
  1  8 college, or university.  The master's degree must include an
  1  9 emphasis in curriculum and instruction.  In addition, an
  1 10 applicant shall present evidence of three years of successful
  1 11 educational and occupational experience.
  1 12    2.  A licensed practitioner employed by a school district
  1 13 or accredited nonpublic school to organize curriculum for the
  1 14 district on or before June 30, 2002, is exempt from this
  1 15 section.  
  1 16                           EXPLANATION 
  1 17    This bill requires that, effective July 1, 2002, a person
  1 18 employed by a school district or an accredited nonpublic
  1 19 school to organize curriculum must hold a master's degree with
  1 20 an emphasis in curriculum and instruction, and have three
  1 21 years of successful educational and occupational experience.
  1 22    The bill provides an exemption for a licensed practitioner
  1 23 employed on or before June 30, 2002, to organize curriculum
  1 24 for a school district or accredited nonpublic school.
