1 1 Section 1. BIRTH INJURY PREVENTION RESEARCH AND EDUCATION.
1 2 There is appropriated from the general fund of the state to
1 3 the state board of regents for the fiscal year beginning July
1 4 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, the following amount, or so
1 5 much thereof as is necessary, to be used for the purpose
1 6 designated:
1 7 For the establishment of a birth injury prevention research
1 8 and education program at the university of Iowa hospitals and
1 9 clinics:
1 10 .................................................. $ 300,000
1 11 Funds appropriated in this section shall be used by the
1 12 university of Iowa hospitals and clinics to analyze current
1 13 research relating to birth injury prevention; conduct
1 14 additional research relating to the treatment and prevention
1 15 of birth injuries; provide physician education concerning the
1 16 causes, incidence, and prevention of birth injuries; and
1 17 prepare and distribute updates to physicians and hospitals
1 18 relating to current birth injury treatment options.
1 19 EXPLANATION
1 20 This bill provides for an appropriation from the general
1 21 fund of the state to the state board of regents for the fiscal
1 22 year beginning July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, of
1 23 $300,000 for the establishment of a birth injury prevention
1 24 research and education program at the university of Iowa
1 25 hospitals and clinics. The bill provides that the
1 26 appropriated funds shall be used to analyze current research
1 27 relating to birth injury prevention; conduct additional
1 28 research relating to the treatment and prevention of birth
1 29 injuries; provide physician education concerning the causes,
1 30 incidence, and prevention of birth injuries; and prepare and
1 31 distribute updates to physicians and hospitals relating to
1 32 current birth injury treatment options.
