1 3 (COMPANION TO HCR 105 BY SIEGRIST)
1 4 A Concurrent Resolution designating January 30, 2002,
1 5 as Iowa Insurance Day.
1 6 WHEREAS, the Iowa insurance industry, through its
1 7 employees and agents, has made a historic contribution
1 8 to the economic growth and strength of our state and
1 9 nation; and
1 10 WHEREAS, all Iowans benefit from the financial
1 11 protections offered by the Iowa insurance industry
1 12 through the provision of mechanisms to insure the
1 13 health, life, property, and retirement income of
1 14 Iowans; and
1 15 WHEREAS, two hundred fifty-seven insurance
1 16 companies are headquartered in Iowa; and
1 17 WHEREAS, more than 40,000 Iowans work in Iowa's
1 18 insurance industry, with over 27,000 agents and
1 19 brokers representing the insurance industry in every
1 20 county in the state; and
1 21 WHEREAS, the yearly insurance industry payroll for
1 22 its Iowa employees exceeds $1.5 billion, 5 percent of
1 23 the total payroll for all Iowa employees; and
1 24 WHEREAS, Iowa's insurance industry currently
1 25 accounts for 4 percent of the gross state product, at
1 26 over $3.1 billion; NOW THEREFORE,
1 27 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
1 28 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the Iowa General
1 29 Assembly designates the day of January 30, 2002, as
1 30 Iowa Insurance Day and invites the citizens of Iowa to
2 1 discover and honor the important economic
2 2 contributions made by the Iowa insurance industry.
