Section 256.11, unnumbered paragraph 1, 1 6 Code Supplement 2001, is amended to read as follows: 1 7 The state board shall adopt rules under chapter 17A 1 8 and a procedure for accrediting all public and 1 9 nonpublic schools in Iowa offering instruction at any 1 10 or all levels from the prekindergarten level through 1 11 grade twelve.The rules of the state board shall1 12require that a multicultural, gender fair approach is1 13used by schools and school districts. The educational1 14programshall be taught from a multicultural, gender1 15fair approach. Global perspectives shall be1 16incorporated into all levels of the educational1 17program." 1 18 #2. Page 2, by inserting before line 33 the 1 19 following: 1 20 "Sec. . Section 256A.4, subsection 1, 1 21 unnumbered paragraph 2, Code Supplement 2001, is 1 22 amended to read as follows: 1 23 A family support programshall meet multicultural1 24gender fair guidelines. The programshall encourage 1 25 parents to be aware of practices that may affect 1 26 equitable development of children. The program shall 1 27 include parents in the planning, implementation, and 1 28 evaluation of the program. A program shall be 1 29 designed to meet the needs of the residents of the 1 30 participating district and may use unique approaches 1 31 to provide for those needs. The goals of a family 1 32 support program shall include, but are not limited to, 1 33 the following:" 1 34 #3. Page 5, by inserting after line 13 the 1 35 following: 1 36 "Sec. . Section 262.81, Code 2001, is amended 1 37 to read as follows: 1 38 262.81 LEGISLATIVE INTENT. 1 39 The general assembly recognizes that educational 1 40 programs designed to enhance the interrelation and 1 41 cooperation among cultural, racial, and ethnic groups 1 42 in society require the contribution and active 1 43 participation of all ethnic and racial groups. The 1 44 general assembly also recognizes that failure to 1 45 include minority representation at the faculty level 1 46 at the state universities contributes to cultural, 1 47 racial, and ethnic isolation of minority students and 1 48 does not reflect the realities ofa multicultural and1 49diverseIowa society. Therefore, the "Regents' 1 50 Minority and Women Educators Enhancement" program is 2 1 established to assist in the recruitment and retention 2 2 of faculty that more adequately represents the diverse 2 3 cultural, racial, and ethnic makeup ofsocietyIowa 2 4 and to improve the education of all students." 2 5 #4.
