  1  1    Amend Senate File 417 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 1, by inserting after line 25 the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    "Sec.    .  Section 602.1215, subsection 1, Code
  1  5 2001, is amended to read as follows:
  1  6    1.  The district judges of each judicial election
  1  7 district shall by majority vote appoint persons to
  1  8 serve as clerks of the district court, one for each
  1  9 county within the judicial election district.  A
  1 10 person does not qualify for appointment to the office
  1 11 of clerk of the district court unless the person is at
  1 12 the time of application a resident of the state.
  1 13 Within three months of appointment the clerk of the
  1 14 district court must establish residence and physically
  1 15 reside in the county state.  A clerk of the district
  1 16 court may be removed from office for cause by a
  1 17 majority vote of the district judges of the judicial
  1 18 election district.  Before removal, the clerk of the
  1 19 district court shall be notified of the cause for
  1 20 removal."
