1 1 Amend Senate Concurrent Resolution 13 as follows:
1 2 #1. By striking page 1, line 8, through page 2,
1 3 line 11, and inserting the following:
1 4 "A Concurrent Resolution requesting the congressional
1 5 delegation of the state of Iowa to support a
1 6 bipartisan effort to provide tax relief.
1 7 WHEREAS, the prosperity of the past decade as the
1 8 result of fiscal policies by President Bush and
1 9 President Clinton has provided us with the opportunity
1 10 to reduce taxes; and
1 11 WHEREAS, a portion of government surpluses should
1 12 be returned to the taxpayers; and
1 13 WHEREAS, all families deserve a reduction in their
1 14 tax rates; and
1 15 WHEREAS, Iowa's Senator Charles E. Grassley, Chair
1 16 of the Senate Finance Committee, has wisely held up
1 17 consideration of tax changes until May 2001, thereby
1 18 refusing to rush to judgment and to provide time for
1 19 additional discussion; and
1 20 WHEREAS, the opportunity exists for the United
1 21 States Congress to provide tax relief this year and
1 22 address other pressing national problems; NOW
1 23 THEREFORE,
1 24 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
1 25 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the General Assembly
1 26 urges Iowa's elected Senators and Representatives in
1 27 the United States Congress to support and work to pass
1 28 a fiscally responsible, commonsense package of tax
1 29 relief and budget measures that not only provides
1 30 substantial tax savings but also addresses pressing
1 31 national priorities such as the establishment of a
1 32 prescription drug benefit plan for America's seniors,
1 33 the strengthening of the social security and Medicare
1 34 systems, and a substantial reduction in the national
1 35 debt.
1 36 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon passage, copies
1 37 of this Resolution shall be sent by the Secretary of
1 38 the Senate to Senator Charles E. Grassley, Senator Tom
1 39 Harkin, Representative Jim Leach, Representative Jim
1 40 Nussle, Representative Leonard Boswell, Representative
1 41 Greg Ganske, and Representative Tom Latham."
