1 1 Section 1. Section 298.4, Code 2001, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 6. To pay the costs of energy
1 4 conservation measures. For the purpose of this subsection, an
1 5 "energy conservation measure" means a training program,
1 6 facility alteration, or equipment to be used in new
1 7 construction, including an addition to an existing facility,
1 8 that results or is projected to result in a measured reduction
1 9 in fuel, energy, or operation and maintenance costs. Cost
1 10 savings achieved by a school district resulting from the
1 11 implementation of energy conservation measures undertaken
1 12 pursuant to this subsection shall be deposited annually in the
1 13 district management levy fund until such time as the fund is
1 14 fully repaid for the cost of the energy conservation measures
1 15 undertaken by the school district.
1 16 EXPLANATION
1 17 This bill provides that a school district may utilize the
1 18 district management levy for energy conservation measures.
1 19 The bill defines an "energy conservation measure" to mean a
1 20 training program, facility alteration, or equipment to be used
1 21 in new construction, including an addition to an existing
1 22 facility, that results or is projected to result in a measured
1 23 reduction in fuel, energy, or operation and maintenance costs.
1 24 The bill provides that the cost savings achieved by a school
1 25 district resulting from the implementation of energy
1 26 conservation measures shall be deposited annually in the
1 27 district management levy fund until the fund is fully repaid
1 28 for the cost of the energy conservation measures undertaken.
