1 1 Section 1. Section 692A.1, subsection 1, Code 2001, is
1 2 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
1 3 NEW PARAGRAPH. i. Criminal transmission of human
1 4 immunodeficiency virus in violation of section 709C.1.
1 5 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act, being deemed of
1 6 immediate importance, takes effect upon enactment.
1 7 EXPLANATION
1 8 This bill adds the offense of criminal transmission of
1 9 human immunodeficiency virus to the list of aggravated
1 10 offenses that require registration under the sex offender
1 11 registry. Current law generally requires a person to register
1 12 as a sex offender for a period of 10 years. Persons convicted
1 13 of aggravated offenses are required to register for life. A
1 14 person who is convicted of criminal transmission of human
1 15 immunodeficiency virus, commits a class "B" felony.
1 16 The bill takes effect upon enactment.
