  1  1    Section 1.  Section 915.35, subsection 4, Code 2001, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    4.  To the greatest extent possible, a multidisciplinary an
  1  4 investigation and prosecution team involving the county
  1  5 attorney, law enforcement personnel, community-based child
  1  6 advocacy organizations, and personnel of the department of
  1  7 human services shall be utilized in investigating and
  1  8 prosecuting cases involving a violation of chapter 709 or 726
  1  9 or other crime committed upon a victim as defined in
  1 10 subsection 1.  A multidisciplinary An investigation and
  1 11 prosecution team may also consult with or include juvenile
  1 12 court officers, medical and mental health professionals,
  1 13 court-appointed special advocates, guardians ad litem, and
  1 14 members of a multidisciplinary consultation team created by
  1 15 the department of human services for child abuse
  1 16 investigations.  The department of justice may provide
  1 17 training and other assistance to support the activities of a
  1 18 multidisciplinary an investigation and prosecution team
  1 19 referred to in this subsection.
  1 20    Sec. 2.  CHILD PROTECTION INVESTIGATION AND PROSECUTION
  1 21 TEAMS.  There is appropriated from the general fund of the
  1 22 state to the department of justice for the fiscal year
  1 23 beginning July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, the
  1 24 following amounts, or so much thereof as is necessary, for the
  1 25 purposes designated:
  1 26    1.  For the development and implementation of a training
  1 27 program for county attorneys and other members of the child
  1 28 protection investigation and prosecution teams to be conducted
  1 29 by the prosecuting attorneys training coordinator, and for not
  1 30 more than the following full-time equivalent positions:  
  1 31 .................................................. $    200,000

  1 33    2.  For grants to local investigation and prosecution teams
  1 34 to help facilitate the establishment and enhancement of such
  1 35 teams:  
  2  1 .................................................. $    300,000
  2  2                           EXPLANATION
  2  3    This bill relates to the training and enhancement of an
  2  4 investigation and prosecution team, and makes an appropriation
  2  5 to the department of justice.
  2  6    The bill makes an appropriation from the general fund to
  2  7 the department of justice to train teams for the investigation
  2  8 and prosecution of persons accused of child abuse in juvenile
  2  9 or district court.
  2 10    The bill also makes an appropriation from the general fund
  2 11 to the department of justice to help local authorities to
  2 12 establish and enhance such teams.
