1 1 Section 1. Section 232.70, Code 2001, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 2A. The department shall establish a
1 4 statewide central intake unit for receiving child abuse
1 5 reports. The intake unit shall have the ability to receive
1 6 reports over a single, statewide toll-free telephone number.
1 7 The intake unit staff shall have special training in receiving
1 8 and properly responding to child abuse reports.
1 9 EXPLANATION
1 10 This bill amends Code section 232.70, relating to the child
1 11 abuse reporting procedure, to require the department of human
1 12 services to establish a statewide central intake unit for
1 13 reports of child abuse.
1 14 The intake unit is required to have the ability to receive
1 15 reports over a single, statewide toll-free telephone number.
1 16 The unit's staff are required to have special training in
1 17 receiving and properly responding to child abuse reports.
