1 2 BY KLEMME, SIEGRIST, KUHN, and MYERS
1 3 A Resolution urging the Department of Natural
1 4 Resources and the Department of Agriculture and Land
1 5 Stewardship to establish a Joint Science Advisory Committee
1 6 in order to assist the departments in providing for
1 7 effective responses to emerging issues affecting the
1 8 environment, agriculture, and public health.
1 9 WHEREAS, emerging issues affecting the environment,
1 10 agriculture, and public health may have a dramatic
1 11 impact upon the quality of life of Iowans; and
1 12 WHEREAS, if there is a critical need to develop an
1 13 effective response to these issues, including the
1 14 impact on state actions and policies; NOW THEREFORE,
1 15 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
1 16 That the Department of Natural Resources and the
1 17 Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship are
1 18 urged to establish a Joint Science Advisory Committee
1 19 to assist the departments; and
1 20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of
1 21 Representatives urges the departments to request that
1 22 persons with special qualifications serve as members
1 23 of the committee, which may include persons
1 24 representing universities, state or federal agencies,
1 25 and persons regulated under state law; and
1 26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the purpose of the
1 27 committee shall be to assist the departments by
1 28 developing recommendations and alternatives based on
1 29 sound scientific principles, a critical approach to
1 30 the examination of the emerging issues, and the
2 1 preparation of necessary literature to support the
2 2 committee's recommendations and alternatives; and
2 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of the
2 4 House of Representatives shall deliver a copy of this
2 5 Resolution to the Director of the Department of
2 6 Natural Resources and the Secretary of Agriculture.
