1 3 A Resolution congratulating the 2001 University of
1 4 Northern Iowa Baseball Team.
1 5 WHEREAS, Iowans are pleased and proud of the 2001
1 6 University of Northern Iowa Baseball Team for winning
1 7 the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament; and
1 8 WHEREAS, the University of Northern Iowa Baseball
1 9 Team set a school record for team wins in a season
1 10 with 35 victories; and
1 11 WHEREAS, the University of Northern Iowa Baseball
1 12 Team made its first NCAA regional appearance as a
1 13 Division I institution; and
1 14 WHEREAS, the University of Northern Iowa Baseball
1 15 Team led the Missouri Valley Conference in hitting
1 16 with a .333 average; and
1 17 WHEREAS, the University of Northern Iowa Baseball
1 18 Team ranked tenth in the nation in hitting; and
1 19 WHEREAS, the University of Northern Iowa Baseball
1 20 Team broke eight team and individual season records;
1 21 and
1 22 WHEREAS, six players from the University of
1 23 Northern Iowa Baseball Team were named to the All-
1 24 Missouri Valley Conference Team, including Ryan
1 25 Brunner as Player of the Year and Nic Ungs as Pitcher
1 26 of the Year; and
1 27 WHEREAS, Ryan Brunner was a first-team All-American
1 28 and Nic Ungs was a second-team All-American; and
1 29 WHEREAS, three members of the team were named to
1 30 all-region and academic all-district teams; and
2 1 WHEREAS, three members of the team were drafted and
2 2 signed professional baseball contracts, including Ryan
2 3 Brunner with the Boston Red Sox, Nic Ungs with the
2 4 Florida Marlins, and Aaron McEachran with the Toronto
2 5 Blue Jays; and
2 6 WHEREAS, the hard work and superlative efforts of
2 7 the University of Northern Iowa Baseball Team and
2 8 Coach Rick Heller are a source of pride for all
2 9 Iowans; NOW THEREFORE,
2 10 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 11 That the House of Representatives congratulates the
2 12 University of Northern Iowa Baseball Team and their
2 13 coach on the great success of their 2001 baseball
2 14 season and wishes them the best of luck during their
2 15 upcoming 2002 baseball season.
