1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY RAECKER, JACOBS, FORD, and EICHHORN
1 3 A Resolution honoring the Drake University Women's
1 4 Basketball Team and Coach Lisa Stone.
1 5 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa are gratified and
1 6 proud that the Drake University Bulldogs Women's
1 7 Basketball Team advanced to the Sweet Sixteen third
1 8 round of the NCAA Tournament; and
1 9 WHEREAS, this year marked the first time since 1982
1 10 that the Drake Women's Basketball Team advanced to the
1 11 Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament; and
1 12 WHEREAS, this was the Drake Women's Basketball
1 13 Team's third consecutive appearance and ninth trip to
1 14 the NCAA Tournament; and
1 15 WHEREAS, the seventh-seeded Drake Women's
1 16 Basketball Team posted victories over tenth-seeded
1 17 Syracuse in the first round and second-seeded Baylor
1 18 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament; and
1 19 WHEREAS, the Drake Women's Basketball Team finished
1 20 its season with a 15-3 Missouri Valley Conference
1 21 record and an overall record of 25-8, marking the
1 22 sixth time the Bulldogs have scored 25 wins in a
1 23 season; and
1 24 WHEREAS, Carla Bennett and Stephanie Schmitz were
1 25 selected to the Missouri Valley Conference First Team
1 26 All-Conference, Jayme Anderson was named Missouri
1 27 Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year, and Carla
1 28 Bennett was named to the Missouri Valley Conference
1 29 All-Defensive Team; and
1 30 WHEREAS, seniors Jayme Anderson and Erin Richards,
2 1 and junior Carla Bennett were named to the Missouri
2 2 Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Women's Basketball
2 3 Team; and
2 4 WHEREAS, senior Jayme Anderson was one of only five
2 5 players named to the 2002 Verizon CoSida Academic All-
2 6 District VII University Division Women's Basketball
2 7 second team; and
2 8 WHEREAS, the Drake University Women's Basketball
2 9 Team has had seven Academic All-Americans in women's
2 10 basketball since 1982; NOW THEREFORE,
2 11 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 12 That the House of Representatives congratulates the
2 13 Drake University Women's Basketball Team, Coach Lisa
2 14 Stone, and the coaching staff on another successful
2 15 season and thanks them for representing Drake
2 16 University and the State of Iowa with their
2 17 outstanding performances throughout the year and at
2 18 the NCAA Tournament.
2 19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the
2 20 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall
2 21 prepare a copy of this Resolution for presentation to
2 22 Coach Lisa Stone and the Drake University Women's
2 23 Basketball Team.
