1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY ATTEBERRY and SCHERRMAN
1 3 A Resolution recognizing Mr. Joe Stepanek and Mr.
1 4 Brandon Trapp for their acts of heroism.
1 5 WHEREAS, on October 27, 2001, Mr. Joe Stepanek and
1 6 Mr. Brandon Trapp, both residents of Manchester, Iowa,
1 7 were witnesses to a horrific accident in which two
1 8 vehicles collided head-on, resulting in one of the
1 9 vehicles rolling into a ditch and its engine bursting
1 10 into flames; and
1 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Stepanek and Mr. Trapp came to the
1 12 rescue of the rolled vehicle's passengers despite the
1 13 great danger presented by the burning engine and the
1 14 likelihood it would ignite the vehicle's gas tank; and
1 15 WHEREAS, Mr. Stepanek's and Mr. Trapp's efforts
1 16 involved freeing two passengers from the burning
1 17 vehicle and then returning to rescue a third
1 18 passenger; and
1 19 WHEREAS, both gentlemen succeeded in freeing the
1 20 third passenger by using a pocketknife to cut through
1 21 her seat belt only minutes before the gas tank
1 22 exploded, destroying the vehicle; and
1 23 WHEREAS, without Mr. Stepanek's and Mr. Trapp's
1 24 efforts, three individuals might have perished as a
1 25 result of the vehicles' collision and the ensuing
1 26 fire; NOW THEREFORE,
1 27 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
1 28 That the House of Representatives hereby recognizes
1 29 and honors Mr. Joe Stepanek and Mr. Brandon Trapp for
1 30 their steely calm, tremendous bravery, and selfless
2 1 acts of heroism in the face of extreme danger during
2 2 the events of October 27, 2001.
2 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
2 4 this Resolution be prepared for presentation to Mr.
2 5 Joe Stepanek and Mr. Brandon Trapp.
