1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY SIEGRIST, RANTS, and MYERS
1 3 A Resolution paying tribute to the memory of Jane Fowler
1 4 and recognizing her many contributions to state
1 5 government.
1 6 WHEREAS, Jane Fowler's interest in politics and the
1 7 public forum began with her local political caucus,
1 8 expanded to a run for office in the Iowa General
1 9 Assembly, and found its home in the inner workings of
1 10 the House of Representatives; and
1 11 WHEREAS, Jane Fowler ably served the citizens of
1 12 Iowa for 25 years, first as a secretary in the Senate,
1 13 from 1975 until 1982, then as a secretary in the
1 14 House, from 1983 to 1985, then as assistant legal
1 15 counsel beginning January 6, 1986, serving in the
1 16 office of Legal Counsel until May 24, 2000; and
1 17 WHEREAS, many legislators, secretaries, clerks, and
1 18 coworkers, past and present, remember Jane's wonderful
1 19 sense of humor, the practical jokes she loved to play,
1 20 her sometimes caustic wit, the timer in Jane's office,
1 21 and the relish with which she enforced deadlines; and
1 22 WHEREAS, persons close to Jane recall her love of
1 23 her family, especially her grandchildren, and of her
1 24 enjoyment of spare-time hobbies of remodeling,
1 25 gardening, and bird watching; and
1 26 WHEREAS, Jane Fowler's service to this state
1 27 exemplified the best qualities of public service:
1 28 hard work, intelligence, dedication, and integrity;
1 29 and
1 30 WHEREAS, Jane Fowler performed her duties with
2 1 great skill, compassion, and commitment, and she is
2 2 sorely missed; NOW THEREFORE,
2 3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 4 That the House of Representatives pays tribute to the
2 5 memory of Jane Fowler, recognizing her deep commitment
2 6 and many contributions to the State of Iowa, and the
2 7 many accomplishments in her life.
2 8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the
2 9 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives prepare an
2 10 official copy of this Resolution for presentation to
2 11 Jane's husband, Jim Fowler.
