1 2 BY RICHARDSON and SMITH
1 3 A Resolution honoring James "Jimmy" Freeman.
1 4 WHEREAS, Jimmy Freeman was a pioneer of American
1 5 Rock and Roll; and
1 6 WHEREAS, as a member of the Five Satins, Jimmy
1 7 Freeman recorded one of America's most beloved and
1 8 recognized "Doo Wop" ballads, "In the Still of the
1 9 Night"; and
1 10 WHEREAS, Jimmy Freeman contributed further to the
1 11 history of American music by writing such hits as "To
1 12 the Aisle" and "Wonderful Girl"; and
1 13 WHEREAS, Jimmy Freeman was inducted into the United
1 14 in Group Harmony Association Hall of Fame in 1995, and
1 15 received a Pioneer Award from the American Rhythm and
1 16 Blues Hall of Fame in 1998; and
1 17 WHEREAS, Jimmy Freeman has been a resident of the
1 18 state of Iowa since 1970, and has been an Iowa
1 19 business owner for two decades; and
1 20 WHEREAS, the year 2001 marks the 45th anniversary
1 21 of the release of the classic "In the Still of the
1 22 Night"; NOW THEREFORE,
1 23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
1 24 That Jimmy Freeman be recognized as a pioneer of rock
1 25 and roll music, whose contribution to the uniquely
1 26 American genre of music is appreciated not just by the
1 27 citizens of Iowa, but also by music fans all over the
1 28 world.
1 29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, in celebration of the
1 30 45th anniversary of the release of one of America's
2 1 most beloved and recognized "Doo Wop" ballads, "In the
2 2 Still of the Night," upon adoption, a copy of this
2 3 Resolution shall be prepared by the Chief Clerk of the
2 4 House of Representatives and presented to Jimmy
2 5 Freeman.
