1 1 Section 1. Section 724.4, subsection 4, paragraph j, Code
1 2 2001, is amended by striking the paragraph and inserting in
1 3 lieu thereof the following:
1 4 j. Any certified law enforcement officer who is a current
1 5 member in good standing of a duly organized governmental law
1 6 enforcement agency from another state.
1 7 EXPLANATION
1 8 This bill allows any certified law enforcement officer who
1 9 is a current member in good standing of a duly organized
1 10 governmental law enforcement agency from another state to
1 11 carry weapons in Iowa. Current law allows law enforcement
1 12 officers from another state to carry weapons in Iowa when
1 13 extraditing or removing a prisoner from this state, when
1 14 pursuing a suspect, and when performing law enforcement duties
1 15 with the knowledge and consent of the chief of police of the
1 16 city or the sheriff of the county in which the activities
1 17 occur or of the commissioner of public safety.
