1 1 Section 1. Section 724.4, subsection 4, paragraph j, Code
1 2 2001, is amended by striking the paragraph and inserting in
1 3 lieu thereof the following:
1 4 j. Any member of a duly organized state, county, or
1 5 municipal law enforcement unit from another state.
1 6 EXPLANATION
1 7 This bill allows any member of a duly organized state,
1 8 county, or municipal law enforcement unit from another state
1 9 to carry weapons in Iowa. Current law allows law enforcement
1 10 officers from another state to carry weapons in Iowa when
1 11 extraditing or removing a prisoner from this state, when
1 12 pursuing a suspect, and when performing law enforcement duties
1 13 with the knowledge and consent of the chief of police of the
1 14 city or the sheriff of the county in which the activities
1 15 occur or of the commissioner of public safety.
