1 1 Section 1. VEHICLE REGISTRATION FEES – STUDY –
1 2 RECOMMENDATIONS. The state department of transportation shall
1 3 conduct a study to review all annual registration fees paid
1 4 for vehicles operated upon the public highways of this state
1 5 pursuant to chapter 321 and to make recommendations to the
1 6 2003 general assembly concerning the need, if any, for changes
1 7 in the manner of assessing or in the amount of vehicle
1 8 registration fees. On or before December 1, 2002, the state
1 9 department of transportation shall file a report with the
1 10 legislative service bureau, for distribution to the members of
1 11 the 2003 general assembly, which contains the department's
1 12 findings and recommendations in regard to the study, including
1 13 any proposals to change existing registration fees for
1 14 vehicles.
1 15 EXPLANATION
1 16 This bill requires the state department of transportation
1 17 to conduct a study to review all annual registration fees paid
1 18 for vehicles operated upon the public highways of this state
1 19 pursuant to Code chapter 321 and to make recommendations to
1 20 the 2003 General Assembly concerning its findings and the
1 21 need, if any, for changes in the manner of assessing or in the
1 22 amount of vehicle registration fees. The bill provides that
1 23 the state department of transportation shall file its report
1 24 with the legislative service bureau on or before December 1,
1 25 2002, for distribution to the members of the 2003 General
1 26 Assembly.
