1 1 Section 1. Section 135C.25, subsection 1, Code 2001, is
1 2 amended to read as follows:
1 3 1. a. Each health care facility shall have a resident
1 4 advocate committee whose members shall be appointed by the
1 5 director of the department of elder affairs or the director's
1 6 designee. A person shall not be appointed a member of a
1 7 resident advocate committee for a health care facility unless
1 8 the person is a resident of the service area where the
1 9 facility is located. The resident advocate committee for any
1 10 facility caring primarily for persons with mental illness,
1 11 mental retardation, or a developmental disability shall only
1 12 be appointed after consultation with the administrator of the
1 13 division of mental health and developmental disabilities of
1 14 the department of human services on the proposed appointments.
1 15 The majority of the members of the resident advocate committee
1 16 for the Iowa veterans home shall be current residents of the
1 17 Iowa veterans home. Recommendations to the director or the
1 18 director's designee for membership on resident advocate
1 19 committees are encouraged from any agency, organization, or
1 20 individual. The administrator of the facility shall not be
1 21 appointed to the resident advocate committee and shall not be
1 22 present at committee meetings except upon request of the
1 23 committee.
1 24 EXPLANATION
1 25 This bill provides that the majority of the membership of
1 26 the resident advocate committee of the Iowa veterans home are
1 27 to be current residents of the Iowa veterans home.
