  1  1    Section 1.  Section 298.3, subsection 3, Code 2001, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    3.  The purchase of buildings and the purchase of a single
  1  4 unit of non-technology-related equipment or a technology
  1  5 system exceeding one thousand five hundred dollars in value.
  1  6 For the purposes of this subsection, "non-technology-related
  1  7 equipment" means equipment other than that meeting the
  1  8 definition of technology pursuant to subsection 3A.
  1  9    Sec. 2.  Section 298.3, Code 2001, is amended by adding the
  1 10 following new subsection:
  1 11    NEW SUBSECTION.  3A.  Technology expenditures.  For the
  1 12 purposes of this subsection, "technology" means hardware and
  1 13 software, and materials and supplies related to instructional
  1 14 technology.  
  1 15                           EXPLANATION
  1 16    This bill provides for the utilization of physical plant
  1 17 and equipment levy revenue for technology expenditures.  The
  1 18 bill modifies the provision contained in Code section 298.3,
  1 19 subsection 3, authorizing the expenditure of physical plant
  1 20 and equipment levy revenue for a single unit of equipment or a
  1 21 technology system exceeding $1,500 in value, such that the
  1 22 dollar limitation shall apply only to the procurement of
  1 23 equipment which does not constitute technology as defined in
  1 24 the bill.  The bill provides that revenue may be expended for
  1 25 technology purposes without dollar limitation.  The bill
  1 26 provides that "technology" is defined as hardware and
  1 27 software, and materials and supplies related to instructional
  1 28 technology.
