1 1 Section 1. Section 144.49, Code 2001, is amended to read
1 2 as follows:
1 3 144.49 ADDITIONAL RECORD BY FUNERAL DIRECTOR.
1 4 A funeral director or other person who removes from the
1 5 place of death or transports or finally disposes of a dead
1 6 body or fetus, in addition to filing any certificate or other
1 7 form required by this chapter, shall keep a record which shall
1 8 identify the body, list any personal effects, including
1 9 articles of clothing, which accompany the deceased, and give
1 10 information pertaining to the funeral director's or other
1 11 person's receipt, removal, and delivery of the body and the
1 12 personal effects of the deceased as prescribed by the
1 13 department in rules adopted in accordance with chapter 17A.
1 14 This record shall include the date and time and location from
1 15 which the body was removed and the date and time and location
1 16 to which the body was transported and shall be signed by a
1 17 funeral director or other person at the location from which
1 18 the body was removed and at the location to which the body was
1 19 transported. A copy of this record shall be provided to the
1 20 person in custody of the body when it is removed or
1 21 transported, the family of the deceased, and the person who
1 22 receives delivery of the body.
1 23 EXPLANATION
1 24 This bill amends Code section 144.49 by requiring a funeral
1 25 director or other person who removes or transports a dead body
1 26 or fetus, to make a record which identifies the body and lists
1 27 any personal effects, including articles of clothing, which
1 28 accompany the deceased and gives information pertaining to the
1 29 receipt, and date, time, and location of the removal, and
1 30 delivery of the body and the personal effects of the deceased,
1 31 and to provide copies of that record to the person in custody
1 32 of the body when it is removed, the family of the deceased,
1 33 and the person who receives delivery of the body.
1 34 The bill also requires the record to be signed by the
1 35 funeral director or other person at the location from which
2 1 the body was removed and at the location to which the body was
2 2 transported.
