1 1 Section 1. Section 456A.24, Code 2001, is amended by
1 2 adding the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 14. Enter into an interstate wildlife
1 4 violators compact with one or more states to enforce state
1 5 laws and rules relating to the protection and conservation of
1 6 wildlife subject to the requirements of section 28E.9. The
1 7 commission may adopt rules as necessary for the implementation
1 8 of the compact.
1 9 EXPLANATION
1 10 This bill authorizes the department of natural resources to
1 11 enter into an interstate wildlife violators compact with one
1 12 or more other states to enforce state laws and rules relating
1 13 to the protection and conservation of wildlife subject to Code
1 14 section 28E.9. In part, Code section 28E.9 provides that if
1 15 an intergovernmental agreement or compact is entered into
1 16 between or among one or more public agencies of this state and
1 17 one or more public agencies of another state or of the United
1 18 States, the agreement has the status of an interstate compact
1 19 and is subject to approval of the attorney general, who shall
1 20 determine if the agreement or compact is in proper form and
1 21 compatible with state law.
