1 1 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY FORD
1 3 A Concurrent Resolution to request that the Legislative
1 4 Council establish an interim committee to study
1 5 issues relating to water quality.
1 6 WHEREAS, water quality is a vital issue of concern
1 7 to the residents of the state; and
1 8 WHEREAS, it is necessary to examine impacts on the
1 9 state's water quality and the state's role in
1 10 preserving, enhancing, and remediating the quality of
1 11 surface and subsurface water; NOW THEREFORE,
1 12 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
1 13 SENATE CONCURRING, That the Legislative Council is
1 14 requested to create a water quality interim committee
1 15 to study the quality of the state's surface and
1 16 subsurface waters, including drinking water sources.
1 17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That if created, the
1 18 interim committee consider all major sources of
1 19 contamination, current effluent and treatment
1 20 standards, and practices or systems designed to
1 21 prevent or reduce contamination.
1 22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That if created, the
1 23 Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the
1 24 Department of Natural Resources cooperate with the
1 25 interim committee.
1 26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That if created, the
1 27 interim committee, as directed by the Legislative
1 28 Council, report to the General Assembly regarding any
1 29 recommendations required to improve water quality in
1 30 the state, including legislative measures to reduce
2 1 contamination that may pose a risk to human health.
