1 3 (COMPANION TO LSB 3014SS BY LUNDBY)
1 4 A Concurrent Resolution requesting the
1 5 legislative council to authorize the personal privacy
1 6 issues study committee to continue deliberations
1 7 during the 2001 legislative interim.
1 8 WHEREAS, the personal privacy issues study
1 9 committee was charged to review the privacy
1 10 protections in Iowa law for Iowa consumers with the
1 11 primary focus of the review to be on the area of
1 12 confidentiality of financial records and to also
1 13 include a focus on medical records with an emphasis on
1 14 protections for the potential abuse in the gathering
1 15 and dissemination of genetic testing information; and
1 16 WHEREAS, the study committee was also authorized to
1 17 explore other areas regarding privacy records as
1 18 deemed fit by the study committee membership; and
1 19 WHEREAS, the study committee held an initial two-
1 20 day meeting prior to the convening of the Seventy-
1 21 ninth General Assembly, 2001 Session, and reviewed
1 22 materials and testimony regarding internet privacy and
1 23 security, IowAccess and privacy concerns, worker
1 24 privacy issues, motor vehicle driver's license
1 25 information, educational records, public records,
1 26 financial records, and medical records; and
1 27 WHEREAS, because there are other issues and
1 28 additional information regarding the items initially
1 29 reviewed that committee members believe should be
1 30 considered, the study committee members agreed to
2 1 request reauthorization for the 2001 legislative
2 2 interim to continue its deliberations; NOW THEREFORE,
2 3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
2 4 SENATE CONCURRING, That the legislative council is
2 5 requested to authorize the personal privacy issues
2 6 study committee to continue deliberations during the
2 7 2001 legislative interim and to make a report to the
2 8 Seventy-ninth General Assembly, 2002 Session, for its
2 9 consideration.
