  1  1    Amend House File 2622 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 19, by inserting after line 31 the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    "Sec.    .  ABATEMENT OF PROPERTY TAXES.
  1  5 Notwithstanding the requirement for the filing of a
  1  6 claim for property tax exemption by April 15 as
  1  7 provided in section 427.1, subsection 14, Code
  1  8 Supplement 1999, the board of supervisors of a county
  1  9 having a population based upon the latest federal
  1 10 census of more than one hundred eighty thousand but
  1 11 not more than two hundred thousand shall abate the
  1 12 property taxes owed, with all interest, fees, and
  1 13 costs, levied for the fiscal year beginning July 1,
  1 14 2000, which were payable during the fiscal year
  1 15 beginning July 1, 2001, on the land and buildings of a
  1 16 religious institution that did not receive a property
  1 17 tax exemption for failure to file for the exemption.
  1 18 To receive the abatement provided in this section, the
  1 19 religious institution shall apply to the county board
  1 20 of supervisors by October 1, 2002, and provide
  1 21 appropriate information establishing that the lands
  1 22 and buildings for which the abatement is sought were
  1 23 used by the religious institution for its appropriate
  1 24 objects during the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2000.
  1 25 The abatement allowed under this section only applies
  1 26 to property taxes, with all interests, fees, and
  1 27 costs, levied for the fiscal year beginning July 1,
  1 28 2000, and due and payable in the fiscal year beginning
  1 29 July 1, 2001."
  1 30    #2.  Page 20, by inserting after line 19 the
  1 31 following:
  1 32    "   .  The section of this Act providing for the
  1 33 abatement of property taxes on religious property,
  1 34 being deemed of immediate importance, takes effect
  1 35 upon enactment, and applies retroactively to property
  1 36 taxes due and payable in the fiscal year beginning
  1 37 July 1, 2001."
