  1  1    Amend Senate File 165, as amended, passed, and
  1  2 reprinted by the Senate, as follows:
  1  3    #1.  Page 1, by inserting after line 29 the
  1  4 following:
  1  5    "In designating the English language as the
  1  6 official language of the state for such reports and
  1  7 publications, it is not the intent of the general
  1  8 assembly to discourage residents of the state from
  1  9 learning, or maintaining proficiency in, a language
  1 10 other than the English language.  The general assembly
  1 11 encourages bilingualism to facilitate a better
  1 12 understanding of other cultures, to enhance
  1 13 appreciation for the diversity and heritage of the
  1 14 citizens of this state, and to promote state tourism
  1 15 and international commerce."
