1 4 "Sec. . NEW SECTION. 285.17 TRANSPORTATION
1 5 FUNDING.
1 6 Transportation services provided by a school
1 7 district, other than for reimbursement of nonpublic
1 8 school pupil transportation pursuant to section 285.2,
1 9 shall be funded pursuant to the district
1 10 transportation levy established in section 298.4A. A
1 11 school district with an average transportation cost
1 12 exceeding the state average transportation cost by one
1 13 hundred fifty percent shall be eligible for
1 14 transportation assistance aid pursuant to section
1 15 257.31, subsection 17.
1 16 Sec. . NEW SECTION. 298.4A DISTRICT
1 17 TRANSPORTATION LEVY.
1 18 1. The board of directors of an eligible school
1 19 district may certify for levy by April 15 of a school
1 20 year, a tax on all taxable property in the school
1 21 district for a district transportation levy. A school
1 22 district shall be eligible to levy for transportation
1 23 costs if the district's average transportation cost
1 24 exceeds one hundred seventy dollars per pupil. The
1 25 revenues from the tax levied in this section shall be
1 26 placed in the district transportation levy fund of the
1 27 school district. District transportation levy
1 28 revenues shall be expended for transportation costs
1 29 incurred pursuant to chapter 285 including, but not
1 30 limited to, costs for the following:
1 31 a. Transporting students.
1 32 b. Purchasing of transportation equipment.
1 33 c. Purchasing transportation services.
1 34 d. Leasing transportation equipment and lease-
1 35 purchasing transportation equipment.
1 36 2. The amount certified for levy shall not include
1 37 claims for reimbursement of nonpublic school pupil
1 38 transportation for which funds are appropriated to the
1 39 department of education pursuant to section 285.2.
1 40 Sec. . NEW SECTION. 298A.3A DISTRICT
1 41 TRANSPORTATION LEVY FUND.
1 42 The district transportation levy fund is a special
1 43 revenue fund. A district transportation levy fund
1 44 must be established in any school corporation which
1 45 levies the tax authorized under section 298.4A."
