1 5 "Section 1. NEW SECTION. 280.28 POTENTIAL
1 6 DROPOUT DECISION-MAKING ASSISTANCE POLICY.
1 7 The board of directors of a school district and the
1 8 authorities in charge of an accredited nonpublic
1 9 school shall adopt a potential dropout decision-making
1 10 assistance policy to inform students who are potential
1 11 school dropouts and are no longer of compulsory
1 12 attendance age of the problems the students may
1 13 encounter as school dropouts and of alternative
1 14 educational options.
1 15 Under the policy, the school board or the
1 16 authorities in charge of an accredited nonpublic
1 17 school shall provide to a student, when a student is
1 18 identified as being at risk of dropping out or at
1 19 least twenty-four hours before the student is
1 20 anticipated to drop out of school, information by
1 21 videotape about the problems that research indicates
1 22 dropouts are likely to encounter and about the
1 23 alternative educational options offered by the school
1 24 district or school or by any other educational
1 25 institution in the area, as appropriate. The school
1 26 board and authorities in charge of an accredited
1 27 nonpublic school shall also provide to the student a
1 28 certification and consent form to be signed by the
1 29 student verifying that the student was offered a
1 30 viewing of the videotape. The student shall also
1 31 attain the signature of the student's parent or legal
1 32 guardian to document that the parent or legal guardian
1 33 consents to the student's intention to drop out of
1 34 school."
