  The Senate met in regular session at 1:10 p.m., Senator Redfern
  presiding.

  Prayer was offered by the Reverend Steven Teske, pastor of the
  Trinity Lutheran Church of Shenandoah, Iowa, guest of Senator
  McLaren.

  The Journal of Thursday, March 2, 2000, was approved.

  HOUSE MESSAGE RECEIVED

  The following message was received from the Chief Clerk of the
  House:

  MADAM PRESIDENT:  I am directed to inform your honorable body that the
  House has on March 2, 2000, passed the following bill in which the
  concurrence of
  the Senate is asked:

  House File 2492, a bill for an act relating to certain state and
  municipal agencies by making changes relating to the provision of
  and training for fire protection service and emergency medical service
  and by amending the powers and duties of townships and township
  officers.

  Read first time and referred to committee on Local Government.

  SPECIAL GUESTS

  Senator Deluhery introduced Miss Iowa of 2000, Jennifer Caudle,
  accompanied by her parents Henry and Esther Caudle, from
  Davenport, Iowa.
